My HU app
Communication strategist
The collaboration with the general app MyHU from Hogeschool Utrecht faced a challenge, as many students didn't perceive the app as a central source of information and had mistrust due to past technical issues. To address this problem, we conducted research to understand how we could effectively inform students about MyHU.
After thorough research, including creating and testing various prototypes with the target audience, we found that students were not aware of the app's functionalities. To reach them effectively, we explored six alternatives, including different versions of water bottles, notebooks or sketchbooks, a mural, and two versions of project mapping.
Ultimately, we chose alternative 6, namely project mapping, which proved to be the most effective way to inform students about the MyHU app. We noticed that using a cynical quote grabs students' attention, while humor and self-deprecation were effective in making the message stick. Additionally, the artistic design made it stand out and enjoyable to watch.
The selected animation conveys the necessary information in a short timeframe, giving students enough time to grasp the entire message as they pass through the central halls. By projecting the animation in strategic areas like the cafeteria or entrances, we ensure that no student misses it. Beaming the animation, instead of physically applying it to the buildings, avoids any damage to the HU premises and allows easy removal if needed. In this way, we aim to make a positive impact and encourage students to utilize the MyHU app more effectively for their information needs.
